
About the Project
Growth of the Kingdom of Bahrain has led to an increase of average daily ridership levels from 16,000 to 28,900; an increase of the total route length served by buses from 220km to 700km and the coverage area of 77% of total population; expanded bus routes and services; and new bus operator introduced in 2015.
The public transport and its promotion became the major objective for the authority. public transit routes had to be revised and finalized on the basis of detailed review of updated land use master plan for overall Kingdom, vision for the integrated transportation strategy and future ridership demands.
The model has to reflect the current travel characteristics/ demand patterns, accurately forecast future travel demands with the selected land use development scenario/ s), facilitate identification of necessary policies and multimodal transport infrastructure (road, rail, freight, and public transport) for phase-wise development in various horizon years.
Hence, this project aims to update Bahrain Transport model and also prepare a Strategic Transportation Master Plan of Bahrain.
